How are Hesston Haybines? Are they good? Are they expensive to maintain? Found one a dealer wants $3,000 for it is a 1091. Are spare parts expesive it looks like it is in great condition and has been stored inside, but should I keep looking for a NH or JD? Thanks.

we have pt-10. i agree it keeps on working and working. looking to replace it for 5 years now but it cuts our 100 acres every year. My new holland friends are always breaking something especially on the 489. got a hesston parts machine for the tongue we broke back at the pivot. i think new parts are very expensive for the hesston. cutter bar end section with ball joint was over 150.00 i think we should have recieved the whole cutter bar for that much!

I ran one for a friend for 6 years and it was almost indestructable, a 1014 I think.

I have a Hesston PT-7 made back in the 70s and
it's still going strong. I've had to make some
minor repairs, bearings mostly, but that is normal
with any brand. Parts seem fairly priced and no
problem getting anything even on an older unit.
The best thing you can do is keep any haybine
under cover to increase life of rollers and the
bearings. The price sounds fair if it is in good
condition, and I believe Hesston is easier to fix
then NH or JD.

Hi Agman, others will disagree. but i think the hesston is much tougher than the NH's. the parts i have purchased for both have been out-of-reason for NH and reasonable for hesston. lastest example head float spring for pt-10 $37.00 same spring for NH1469 $169.00 (spring about the same size). i'll bet the Hesston weights twice what a like NH will. don't know about pricing, paid $500 for my Pt10.

I have a PT 10. Works good, keeps on working. It ought to roll over dead, but it won't! I bought a new belt thinking the old one was going to give up. It's gone thru this year and still working. the new belt (a banded "A" with 4 belts) was $90. I have less then $300 in it. A friend has a Hesston 1014 (I think that's the #) the sectons, guards, hyd.motor all in real good conditon and he paid $1100 at farm auction.

I use a Ferguson FE-35 with my PT-10 and it seems to have power to spare. Good machine although the roller tension system leaves some to be desired. Right now there is no tension on the rollers so I have to take my time cutting. The knife never plugs unless you break a section. The part I like best is around here (Eastern Ontario) They give them away as 90% of the guys use NH for a haybine. Good Luck
