A stackhand is a machine that you use to get up small bales of hay. They can be self propelled or pulled, I don't know which the #10 is. Most people use them to get up the bales and pull the stackhand into the barn and it dumps the bales into a stack in the barn. I've seen some that dump to the side and others that dump from the back. It can save you a lot of hard labor but you have to have a high barn and a good size tractor to pull one. Good luck!

No! You are describing a New Holland bale wagon!!!!

A Stackhand makes a big loaf of (around here anyhow) corn stalks. You run through the corn field after cobining the corn, and it flail chops the leaves & stalks into the chamber, then compresses the chamber to make it firm, ends up looking like a huge loaf of bread. I think it works for alfalfa also, but around here mostly just cornstalks?

Paul, they do work for hay. There was a JD machine in use at least up to 5 years ago north of me in the next county. Saw it running in a field of timothy hay, and it's the only one I've ever seen in this area. The stacks look kind of hard to move. Probably why they never really caught on.

Well, you just need the Stackhand loaf mover, a flatbed trailer with several chains on the floor to pick up the loaf.

Funny, I just saw a JD one sucking up alfalfa today here, at a friend's place no less!
