What is the minimum PTO horsepower required to run a 7' disc mower? I hope to upgrade from my sickle mower soon. Also, does anybody have a recommendation on a good older small-size round baler (4' x 5' bales)?

I just bought a JF disc cutter and cut one of my fields for the first time today. It's a 7' cutter and I used a MF 165 (52 hp) with no problem the rating my cutter calls for is 42 hp.

we runa 7'10" jd 260 disk mopwer the minumem hp is 45 you can tget just a straight 7' mower it has to be eihter 6' or 7'10" no in between....we also use a 1999 model vermeer 504 super i round baler....i would look around for a 504 i roundbaler. it would be arond 10 years old. tehy just quite makeing hte super i's last year. the dif. between the i and super i is heavier bearings in the super i. also what kinda tractor you got? john2510-3020

I have a Case-IH 475 with 42 PTO HP. That is interesting about the incremental sizes of disc mowers - but it makes sense. I have seen some ads for 504 balers for sale. I will have to go and take a look at one. Is there anything specific I should look for on a used one?
