Stuck, i am rebuilding a Dearborn 14-15 sickle bar to use. i have got it all worked over and came to the part i can not figure out. What is a brake back for? it is on a shaft and is either frozen with rust to the shaft or something it has a spring and pin inside but what is it suppose to do and how. this has me stumped.

That is for if you hit something while mowing like a hidden stump so that it will release the cutter bar to swing back so that it doesent break the mower, if it will not release it will break everything up. No not tighten any more than absulatly nessery.

Thanks for the info Leroy. I have never had a sickle bar before. I guess I am going to have to figure out how this brake back is frozen down and free it up. thanks again.
