IS one reason why my baler willn't tie is because of old twine. Do you have to use new twine every year. Another problem is the scrap twine that is getting cutt of is jaming up the knotter. Also the baler makes some good bales and then some all different sizes. Bales about 15 then starts busting and not tieing. Any help

Bryan, old twine from last season shouldn't be the problem. I have an old Massey Ferguson# 10. here's what I have learned that is just general baler lore. Rust is often the problem when you start the first bales of the season. Make sure the needles and the knotter are shone up with steel wool or fine sandpaper or emery cloth. Clean any debris and strands of twine out of the knotter. The length of the bale is determined by an adjustable rod on the trip and sliding the adjuster up or down will lengthen or shorten the bale. I actually made 25 short bales a few weeks ago (straw)to sell at Halloween for decorations. Is it possible that your adjuster is moving on the trip rod? The next thing that causes problems is the clutch on the tying gizmo. I was having a heck of a time baling hay this summer...broken bales missed ties, etc and a friend of mine noticed the plates on the clutch were loose. They looked tight but weren't. There were three little bolts and we tightened them and that old baler worked like a charm, never missed another hay bale. We did 350 of straw and maybe missed 5 total that didn't tie and I think it was because we were packing them too tight. I loosened off the turnbuckles a few turns and we never missed after that. We were trying to bale hay at the start of the summer that was not just quite dry enough but it looked like rain so we decided to do it... had a heck of a time ...if the hay isn't dry enough it just causes problems...too tight ..broken strings...etc. Also make sure your string is fed through all the correct passages and throught the tensor. My son in law ran the twine into the needles and missed the tensor and that was a problem.. I hope that some of this helps you. I am not familiar with a Case baler but I'm sure much of this is general to all balers..I'm no expert, I would rather be on the wagon stacking than running the baler because I feel inadequate, but you learn quickly when you have a problem. Good luck with the baling from Mike in Exeter Ontario
