Hi Phil, i see the spelling police caught you. i'm the worlds worst speller, but usually am able to communicate with others, the typing gets me also. anyway are you asking about a 1020 john deere? if so, i think the first series of leters will be frame type (general purpose, utility, row crop, etc) i have a 1020, but no reference books. if it is a JD you're talking about, try on the JD page, those guys will know. also if its a JD1020, you have one of the best little tractors every made.

OK Phil,
My hotline book has the 1020 beginning serial numbers starting at 14501 in 1965. with yours at 012524L, i'm at a loss. could the L have been misread and is a number instead? if not better try someone who knows at the JD site. sorry i could be of no help. i just got some jd books in mail, i'll look throught them this weekend.
