I have this piece of equipment that I need identified if possible. Without pictures it's hard to explain. There are no part numbers labels etc. I received with tractor I bought. It's about 3 foot long, it has two rows of spikes, that can be adjusted by a lever. It's painted red, has like a 1/4" nibble (real small)that attaches to something and this piece is dragged through the ground.(I'm guessing) I can't figure out what it attachs to, or how to use it?

Sounds like part of a spike-tooth harrow to me. How wide is it? In my limited experience, horse-drawn spike tooth harrows came in sections abour 3 or 4 feet square, and could be hooked together with "squadron" hitches to cover more ground per pass. They were/are used to break up clods and help level the ground. When I was a kid (50's and 60's) we used them as the last rig or maybe right before a cultipacker before planting.

Paul is describing one of these things. Look familiar?

Thanks, That's it, a picture is worth a thousand words. The pieces sitting flat on the ground is what I have, the handle adjusts the spikes. So, I guess this is a horse pull type of equipment.

Thanks to both Mike (for the picture) and Paul for telling me what it is. I have horses but both of them would look at me like I was crazy if I tried hooking something up to them besides a saddle.

Alan, there are about a bajillion [by actual count ;-)] of those things that have been converted to be pulled by tractors. Got one myself, as a matter of fact. Just a question of rigging a hitch.
