I'm trying to rebuild this old "great piece of History" and the wooden boxens are worn out. I've replaced all of the bolts in the frame and have the blades on hand to replace the broken ones with. Now, I'm planning on making the wooden boxens out of a block of oak or hedgeapple. Has anybody else tried this? I would appreciate any suggestions. I'm told the boxens are available somewhere but are about $20.00 each and I need 8 of them. Can someone help with info? Thanks, Fred.

If these boxbearing are the ones for the spindles. A few year back at the farm show in London Ontario at a display for potato digging equipment the rep showed me the wooden bearing in the tube chain rollers.I believe they were made out of maple wood them boiled in bee's wax. He said as they turn the wood warmed up and the bee wax lubricated them.He said they were the only bearing to stand up to the dirt and abrasion on there potato diggers. I don't know if this would work on a disk, It's just a thought. Good luck

Use hard maple, what orignals were made of, soak in oil for quite a while before installing, best for absorbing and holding the grease.
