I cut a piece of old conveyor belt and haywired it in between the 3 point arms to make a shield that extends between the tractor PTO and the edge of the mower..

No more windups.

For safety's sake, never get out of the tractor seat while the PTO's turning.. and don't let anyone approach it either.

PTO shafts have probably killed or maimed more people on the farm than anything else.

had the same problem, it sarted by wrapping on the zerk (grease) fitting. i wrapped the fitting up with duct tape to stop the weeds from hanging. just another redneck use for duct tape.

Yes, you need to have a guard placed over your pto shaft. Mine has a chain that that hooks between the shaft guard and the bush mower deck that prevents the guard from revolving. Also, the safety factor is greatly enhanced.

If theres long grass and a spinning shaft its going to happen. When I replaced my old shaft with a new one with a plastic gaurd this wasnt much of a problem any more. The gaurd would stop spinning with the shaft and wouldnt get more than a few strands on it and you could grab those(mower stopped) and spin them back off.

All pto shafts should have the gaurds. And, they'll keep the grass off.

My JD trailer rotary has shields on it, but it still wraps up (just the short shield right behind the tractor), maybe because it's a fairly small diameter metal shield. Anyway, we just cut a piece of thinwall corrugated plastic drain pipe to slide over it, and that solves the problem.
