I just bought a 8540 C-IH baler with a thrower on it and before I remove the Thrower I would like to know if anyone has used a Thrower to put bales on the Rack with someone{ME} stacking them? Don't want to remove the Thrower, but I don't want to start Buying Racks with sides yet either. This is probibly a DUMB/UNSAFE idea but I thought I would ask. Thank You!! Dave

After a bale took the hired man right off the top of a 12 ft. high load, I haven't been able to find anybody dumb enough to get back onto the wagon!

We do that all the time. Most throwers can be adjusted to just toss the bale gently onto the front of the wagon. Building sides on the wagon is a good idea anyway.

Why not just add sides to the wagon you have? I did it with two old flat wagons that had been my grandfather's when I switched from JD 336 w/chute to 336 w/ejector. Balers are usually balanced special for the thrower and removing it could be more of a pain than you think.

Another thought- suppose you disconnect the pump drive and loosen the pressure between the thrower belts and just let the bales slide out and hook them, like off a chute?

You are going to be so busy dodging bullets you won't have time to stack any hay. I think you will have more excitement than you can stand.
