{This is also on the Trator Talk Board...just trying to get everyone's input}
I am about to start working on my senior design project (ag. engineering) at Texas A&M and think I'm thinking of designing a self contained hydraulic unit. This would primarily be used to lift discs, shredders, mowers and other implements that require hydraulics to be lifted, so that they could be towed behind a pickup. Something like an engine and a hydraulic pump to plug remote cylinder hoses into that could be portable and easily lifted onto a pickup truck bed. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this at all (I CAN'T copy anything) Thanks for your help guys.

This might be a little late but the kind of unit you are talking about would be easy to make from existing parts. Graingers or a farm supply store could probably fix you up with parts. Rescue crews use a self contained unit to run spreaders, rams and cutters. ( Amkus, Hurst and Genesis make these units ) Also you could check out a snow plow unit for ideas. They use a electric motor and controls so you can operate the hydraulics from the cab. Good luck, JSB

Hi,
You may find some of the Amish quite interested in your product.

Yes, I've seen these things in use on Amish farms in Pennsylvania. Have also seen one in Shoup's catalog for use in running hydraulic augers on gravity wagons to load corn planter hoppers.
