Virgin ground here guys...I just bought a 12 ft tandum disk. Ill be pulling this with a 3020 tractor. Now i had to get a cylinder and hoses for it. I bought a 3x10 cylinder and 2-8 foot hoses. Can some of you give me some advise on putting this puppy on the disk. I think ive figured out that the hoses go on the oposite ends one on the stationary side the other where the plunger comes in and out??? also theres a fill hole on the plunger that i fugure you need to fillwith tractor Hyd fluid?? Does the cylinder hook up how? If your lookiing at the disk from the back does the cylinder attach with the moving arm extending toward the rear of disk or front.. HELP and THANKS Scott

What Leroy said! Most farm equipment uses 8" stroke cylinders. using a 10" will make scrap iron & busted pieces of your implement.

Does your disk have the cylinder mount on the hitch beam, & the ram end goes up & to the back of the disk - the part that moves? This is the normal way, but there are lots of things in farm machinery that are not normal!

When you get it all hooked up, pulling the lever back should make the implement raise, pushing forward should make it lower. If it works opposite, then you have the hoses hooked up to the wrong ports on the tractor. No harm done, it really works either way, but hard on the brain when it's backwards. Just switch the hoses around on the tractor.

THANKS a HEEP!!!!! I will be returning this cylinder then and exchange. Though one other question is on the cylinder there were two plastic plugs one on the housing and one on the housing where the ram comes out. THen there is a steel plug on the oppositte side as those. I put hoses in the two ends that had plastic plugs...CORRECT???? THANKS AGAIN...

You have the part about the plastic plugs right. As for the way the lever works- does your 3020 have the lever on the dash or on the right hand side?
If it's on the dash forward should raise and back should lower. The right side console controls are the oppisite. Either way if wrong just reverse the hoses. Good luck.

Mosts disks that 3 x 10 cylinder will not work on, need 3 x 8 Cylinder, if you do get it on will not let down to working position, try to raise and it will push past the limits of raising and break everything to pieces, be carefull.

The hoses go on the head (end with the ram coming out) and cap. Mount it so that the ram connects to the moveable part, witch is usually attached to the depth adjustment. You will need old style JD hose ends or an old style JD adapter to hook the hoses to the tractor. You don't need to fill the cyliender with oil first. It will fill when you use it the first time. Make sure you leave enough slack in the hoses behind the tractor so they don't pull loose when you turn.
good luck
