Having never built a 3pth attachment I am requesting some Tractor gods experience.

For the Allis? Disk plow posted a few days ago I plan to a) remove front hitch assy, b) bolt or weld a HD Cat. 1 drawbar in it's place for the Oliver's lower lift arms c) build an "A" frame from 1/4" flat stock for the top link. d) Also plan to add a chain (adj) connecting top of A frame to some point on the plow rear of the A frame (like on a bush hog).

Questions -
1) Any special metal or construction techniques to consider for the A frame itself?

2) Any issues with the adjustable chain?

3) Cat. 1 drawbar heavy enough for lift arms?

I don't think 1/4" bar for the A-frame is heavy enough. A plow pulling in the ground or hitting a rock is going to put a lot of force on all the framework. I'd go at least with 1/2". Also, I wouldn't think you'd want to have the amount of "float" that a chain will provide at the back end of the plow. Make the framework solid. You will adjust front to back tilt by changing the length of your top link.

Dave - Thanks for the comments. I agree with the 1/2" stock. I had not thought about the "float" with the chain. Very good point. I will post pics as I progress. May very well drop you a line requesting additonal information. Thanks again.
