Dump rake vs wheel rake

Sometimes differences in what locals call equipment can mess us up, so I need a translation.

I'm trying to find what folks in my part of Maryland call a "dump rake." I've seen some adds on the 'net for something called a "wheel rake." Is it the same thing, or is a "wheel rake" a side-delivery or something else again?

thanks!
Tom

What you want is a rake that is simular in loooks to a York (landscape) Rake but is larger and is towed. A wheel rake is made of a # pinwheels with little fingersthat gather the hay and puts it into a windrow. It is angled too but not ussally called a side delivery that we mean a rake with parrel bars( New Holland's trade name is rollbar).Last but not least is the rotory rake which looks like a tedder and suposedly tedds too-sorry no exp with these. A note the tag along rollbar style is most common here and requires the least HP.Also a dumprake doesn't make windrows automaticly and are not used with balers.

Thanks. I've seen the wheel rakes, but didn't know they have a name...not many in use around here, either. I bale off my little bit of flat land, but also have several pretty big hills that are too steep to safely bring the baler on. I've been mowing them just to keep the brush down. Decided that is a waste, so I plan on trying an old dump rake to pull the the mowed grass down to the flat land, then feed the baler. I know it'll be slow but I only have a few acres and can use the hay. And if it doesn't work, I can always use it for a lawn ornament! :-)

thanks for the info!
