There is some green paint on the frame and yellow on the rims. The only number I can find is located on the hitch "KK6828". It belonged to my grandfather and I would like to know if it would be worth restoring. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, while I cant help you identify your disc, but I can (and will) give my opinion on whether or not it's 'worth it' to restore. Now, as far as being worth a great deal of money when finished, very few things are worth the time and effort of restoration. However, when you factor in the enjoyment and feeling of pride that you get when you compare the before and after pictures, and the quality time you may spend with a child/ parent restoring it and growing closer together, and the feeling that it is a link with a deceased loved one (in some cases), and the fact that it is a piece of history, a testament to quality manufacturing, I'll say this. In my opinion, based on the above criteria, ANY old farm implement is 'worth it' to restore.

Looking back on what I just wrote, I noticed 2 things. Number one, that is one BIG run- on sentence, and number two- It may not make much sense because I was kinda rambling.

No, you make some sense there. :) I might disagree on a combine, they have a lot of sheetmetal, chains, sprockets, belts, & tons of bearings that do not weather well and are extremely expensive to restore, but otherwise if a person has the disposable income, it is as good a hobby as anything else. :)

Lester's right, it's a KBA. I have one with demountable wheels that was new in 1960. I think they switched from spoked wheels around 1955.

Here's some useful info:

Groffdale Machine Co.
194 S. Groffdale Rd.
Leola, PA 17540
(717) 656-7657

They provide KBA replacement parts.

Thatis a KBA series disk with a wheel carrier attachment, Can't tell from the picture if it is early or late, early had spoke wheels with straight roller bearings, later ones used demountabal disk wheels on tapered roller bearings, avaible with grease type or sealed bearings on the disk shafts, made from 5 blades on a side up to 14', verry good disk, have both the drag type 6 on a side and wheel caried 7 on a side. Made from late 40's thru late 60's.

Lester who made an update on 10/29/01, I need to follow up with what you said about the wheel bearings. I have a KBA with spoke wheels, the hubs look like I need a straight roller in the back & a taper roller in the front. Parts books only show 2 straight roller bearings. Is this correct??

Well, it looks like a John Deere K series disk with a set of wheels attached to it. I couldnt tell you the exact model of it, but it looks like mine and my friends and we bothe have a K series disk. I would say that if you have the time and money to reblade it and paint it and make the wheel set and frame look as factory as possible (i don't think that K's came with wheels, so it might be rigged). Paint the frame in JD Green and the wheel rims in JD Yellow.
