Is it still possible to buy an old farm style 20-30 ft. windmill? I don't want a little 10 footer; and, I don't really need it to pump or do any work.

I see a lot of old damaged windmills on farms, but not many on the newer side. I realize electricity has replaced much of the requirement, but I still like the appearance. Is my only hope to find an old one to dismantle and re-build?

Please point me in the direction of the wind so I can find my windmill.

Thanks. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Brian - there is a family right here in Ontario that restores and resells farm windmills. They aren't all that far away from you. I will find their address and more info. and get back to you or you can e-mail me at sandusk1@sprint.ca

Jim- Thanks a lot. I would appreciate the name or
phone number. I will send an e-mail as well.

I would like to thank everyone else for the fine responses. They have been very informative, and I feel I'm getting closer to finding a traditional
and nostalgic land mark.

Areomotor Windmill Co still makes and sales new windmills. They are made in Texas. There is also some inported copies of the Aeromotor.

Do a search for windmills, and you can find several sources, or email me and I'll get you 2 or 3 more sites.

Thanks Guys,

Brian, I too have been looking for a windmill to display but the ones here in west central IL are hard to come by as nobody wants to let go of them. Saw one for sale that was just the head (torched off), blades broken and bent and ALL shot up for $350. Cumberland General Store has them in their catalog. Towers range from 15' to 30' for aprox. $100 per foot and fans from 6'to 12' starting at about $1500. Add shipping and put it together and you are in business!!! Will probably never buy anything from them as their prices are somewhat high by my standards but the catalog is well worth every penny! Good luck Jim T

Have taken down a few windmills, and believe it or not a 30 ft. aeromotor tower and head and fan will break down to fit into a 7 ft. pickup bed. Need about a day to lower it, disassemble and load, lots of square nuts. Besides all the bullet holes in the fan of an old one give them more character. john in Ne.

Thanks Houndman- I live in a small town (Harrow) just south of Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan.Wisconsin is not that far away but I'll need to consider the logistics of bringing it over here.
My e-mail is rmutterb@ford.com if you have a number I can call. I do have friends with 18 wheelers so I may take a litle ride.

Thanks again.

Odd as it may seem, they are still manufactured. Do a Google search for Aeromotor, and the companies selling wind mills show up. There are some particularly interesting sites.
