I'm trying to find the series number on this AC plow. It's 4-16's and is a mounted plow like the series 62 and 63. However, it has a pneumatic wheel on the back that is raised and lowered via hydraulic cylinder like a semi-mounted plow would except it doesn't have the steering tube and arm. All 4-16's that I have seen like this have a fixed guage wheel on the back. It's snap coupler hitch and I'm wanting to find the series so I can get a manual to see how they have it set up for the 3 point so I can convert it to pull behind my Oliver.

Scott,

You may want to try using them as a semi mount plow first. I have never had a set but I've been told they are the best to plow with. You can probably change the arms from snap coupler to three point hitch without too much trouble.

Scott, If the beams that mount the bottoms to the frame are vertical you have a model 64 (60 series-4 bottom). If they slant you have a model 74 (70 series 4-bottom). If they slant and it has trip beams it is a model 84. The reason for the tail wheel assembly is it is a semi-mounted plow. The ones you have seen with the gauge wheel are fully mounted. I am almost certain that Allis didn't supply the #64 plows in 3 point. #70 mounted plows were availible with 3-point as were the #80 but I have never seen a semi-mounted #70 or #80 with 3 point. Sale prices around here would allow me to sell the Allis plow, buy a 3-point plow and stick some money in my pocket. might check prices out in your area before you go to the trouble of converting.

Butch, I'm not very familiar with allis plows, but if it was semi- mount, wouldn't it have to have a front pivot where the hitch arms connect? wouldn't it also have to have the steering tube and arm that connects to the trailing wheel Like you would find on a 9000 series plow? Thanks for the help. I'll try to look at the beams tommorrow night to see for sure. Scott

The snap coupler semi mounted plows did not steer like other semi-mounted plows. When you turn, the plow follows the tractor like a mounted plow would except the back end was carried on a caster wheel.

Butch, If it works with the snap coupler ok, would it be safe to assume that it would work on a 3 point conversion ,minus the center link? Is it because the plow is shorter than say a 5 or 6 bottom plow that it doesn't need the steering tube and arm and front pivot? Or am I just not seeing the forest for the trees?

I have seen a lot of snap coupler equipment that was farm shop converted to 3 point including mounted plows. If you measure and get the mounting points right it should work. Hard to say about the steering deal. Allis-Chalmers allways was a nonconformist outfit.

Butch, I finally got around to checking the beams on this plow. They have slant beams but, they are not trip beams . So, I take it this is a model 74 then. Thanks for all your help.
