Bush-hog and Finishing mower? I know what a bush-hog is, I have a 5'(bush-hog) that I use with my tractor. I just need to know the difference between a bush-hog and a finishing mower? Where would you not use a finish-mower? The bush-hog no matter how you adjust the top-link still digs the grass in some areas, will a finishing mower not do that? What would be a average price for a used 3pt finishing mower? Thanks for any help.

Finish mowers are made for grass only. They are not built for doing any rough work, like weeds and saplings. One piece of advice: if you are cutting around lots of trees, a belly mower is much handier than a 3-pt, as it is more maneuverable. For big open areas, either one works well.

I recently bought a 6 foot Woods finish mower in good shape for $420. It had new blades, new belt, new bearings, and new wheel supports and I feel I got a good deal. Mine only has wheels on the rear (2).

I did quite a bit of research on the Ford N board before I bought mine and used 5' finish mowers seem to go in the $500-$600 range, and are hard to find for the most part.

Good luck,

Glenn

The finishing mowers use multilple lawnmower type blades and smaller than a bushhog type chopper. The finishing mowers will have gauge wheels on all corners and maybe rollers front or back to keep an even cut height on lawn grass. They don't have the depth in the cutting chamber that a bushhog type has and will not handle tall grass and weeds without overloading and plugging and burning up belts.
From what I have seen, finishing mowers in the 5 foot or 6 foot width cost more than a light to medium duty bushhog. They do an excellent job on a big clear space lawn and do it rapidly. Going around obstacles or ground too soft for the tires on the tractor pulling it is the negative.
