We have an old horse drawn planter that is Deere & Mansur. The cast iron seed box covers are pat dated 1893, reissued 1895. The iron seat is really neat with scroll work on it..... .any ideas what this is worth? Would anyone have a picture showing the colors? We know it has been on this farm about 100 years. It belonged to my husbands grandfather. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello again,

I was going through some pictures on my hard drive and came across one of a older Deere corn planter that was painted up. Sorry, but I don't remember where I got it from or anything else about it. Just thought it might give you folks an idea what it might of looked like when it was new.

Please click on the link below. I've added it to the page with the information from C. H. Wendel.

Hope this helps,

Old Iron (Houndman)

Howdy folks,

Sorry I can't help you out with the colors or the value of your planter but I thought you might be interested in the history of Deere-Mansur corn planters.

I've scanned some information from a book I have called "Encyclopeda of American Farm Implements and Antiques" by C. H. Wendel and have posted the pictures and information at the link below. Who knows, one of the 3 planters pictured may match up to the one you folks have.

Hope this helps,

Old Iron (Houndman)

I thank you SO much for taking the time to send me that information! We had hunted for info but had come up with none. I will have to print it out and let hubby do the comparisons to the one we have. Again..... thanks!

You might consider contacting a local historical society or similar group. They may be able to assist you in your search.
