I have an 8N (1952 model)and just got a Dearborn sickle mower, model 14-16, serial number 5678. I cannot get it to fit. It looked like the top bar was too short, so I guessed at it and lengthened it about 6". I finally got it to hang on the tractor, but I can tell there are still several adjustments way off. It is not useable yet; I just got it to where it will hang. Can someone tell me what to look for? It may also be of note that it looked like the bar had been cut before, which is one reason I suspected it. Maybe I didn't lengthen it enough. The guy I got it from said he had been using it on a Ford 2000. I just don't see how. Also, it looks like the round bar that hooks to the anti sway bar attachment point under the wheel is wrong.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I just knew it wasn't fitting correctly. I will try to order the booklet asap.

My father has a old Dearborn mower that he used on a 8N and 601 Ford. There are two extensions used to lower the 3-point lift arms. The extensions are around 6 or 8 inches long, I think. (I haven't seen them for several years.) These extensions had to be used for the mower to be connected. Maybe these are what your missing.

Myron is correct, the 14-16 required two 8" extentions between the actuator arms and the lift arms. Also required is a bracket that attached below the toplink point on the tractor. the mower toplink attaches to this bracket and not the tractor toplink..under the right axle you need a stabilizer bracket..at the bottom of it it has a swivel ball for the breakaway to attach to..

The N-Newsletter archives has the manual and parts catalog for the 14-16 mower..checkit out.

Their are 3 I believe stabilizer bar mount kits for diff series tractors and they are trickie to hook up and get adjusted correctly the first few times. I would suggest you get a photocopy manual from Ford New Holland ($8.75). It shows how to hook it up and and make all the adjustments for proper cutting. Well worth the money.
