I have a Henry loader/backhoe on a '59 AC D-14. I installed a gauge to check pressures on the system & found that when the pump is supplying the loader...the gauge reads zero psi, until a lever is moved. When fluid is directed to the 6 stacked control valves for the backhoe...200 psi reads at idle. These are open center valves. Can anyone tell me if this 200 psi reading at idle is normal?...and if it is normal, why does the loader read zero psi at idle?

There is less restriction in the 2 spool loader valve than in the 6 spool hoe valve, due to the complex path the free-flowing oil must take to exit the valve stack. There also may be some other restriction in the pressure line to, or return line from, the hoe. 200psi is not a cause for concern, but I would check the pressure reading at fast idle, much of an increase in pressure over the 200psi will decrease digging ability, and decrease hyd component life, particularly the pump, and may overheat the oil.
