I would like to be able to burn a 55acre pasture. It's recommended that 200gals. of water be available when burning a pasture. My pump may be 18gpm instead of the recommended 20gpm but I can live with that. I'm thinking I can start with the hood from a junk car and build a stoneboat that will hold 4 drums for the water. Turn the hood over, attach a sheet of plywood, rig it to the drawbar, set the drums on there, chain the drums together, and drag them around. That will weigh just under 1700lbs.
Anyone put something like that together? Does anyone have any experience, warning, advise, or instruction to contribute to this undertaking?

like bob said, talk to the local fire dept and try to get them to do a "contolled burn" as training. if that does not work them offer a small donation and they will usually help you out then.

What are you going to pull this sled with? try it fully loaded first on wet ground and see how it goes, what is your refill capacity? if you empty the barrels and have a run away fire how fast can you get more water? Call your local Fire Department and see what they recomend as they might even help you burn it off to save a fire call at least they do in my area a and they write it off as training.
