My grandfather bought a new 430 baler in 1975. We powered it with a farmall M. This past summer I started making hay again using a David Brown 990 to bale. We had far fewer problems using the David Brown with the Live PTO and the 540 pto than with the M and no Live PTO and the constant velocity PTO. Good Luck

FarmallMatt,
You sure got that right. Live PTO is really nice to have. Those older tractors sure could have used it. Especially for baling hay when you have big windrows to deal with.

According to my equipment guide it was made from 1970-1977. I believe it was replaced by the 435 model which was made until IH was bought out by Tenneco Corp. and became Case-IH.
