You know, where you pull it w/a tractor, and somebody steers the grader and adjusts the blade? How big of a tractor was needed to pull these( I know it depends on the blade size, but I wasn't sure of the weight it) Who made them? I was just wondering cause my uncle is looking for one, he has a 2 1/2 mile long gravel driveway, and he has an old motor grader but it has finally and completely given up, not worth fixing. He can't afford another grader, so he is trying to get any info on these. He's gotta IH 986 tractor as his biggest, so I imagine that would pull it.

Hey John.....I work with a Cat dealer in Columbia, SC. I think they've probably got one or two sitting around they'd be happy to part with. I think they are either Adams or Galion. I'll do a little leg work if you're interested. Let me know!

I pulled my uncle's around with his Farmall H. I drove the H while he rode the grader.

I have a Good Roads road grader. My driveway is 1/4 mi but all hill.most of the material moving I do with a TD-9 dozer but to touch up and crown it I use the grader behind a Allis WD 1/2 thoettle 1st gear and in two passes we,re done.It came with front dolly wheels but I remove these and hitch it directly to the tractor.I found mine on the net in NH and the guy delivered it as part of the price. There out there so good luck.
PS I have seen a picture of one being pulled on the flats with a 8N w/loader.I believe they were using the front dolly wheels. JIM

I found an Adams Road Patrol grader made in the 1920's by the Adams Co. in Indanapolis Ind. In was sitting in a fence row along the road covered in weeds. Bought it for $ 150. Use it to grade my 3/4 mile lane. Had to put some cement blocks on it for weight. Pull it with Farmall H.

If I ever got my hands on a versitile Bi-directional tractor The very firts thing i wanted to build for it would be a grader. In my mind it looks realy easy. I would take the whole front half off an old road grader, right back to the cab. I would weld this too a frame that would attach to the 3pth on the cab end of the bi-directional tractor. See where im going with this???? on the grader, I would hook up the front wheels to hyrdrolics to steer them, in away i would have crab streering. The rest of the blade would be run off the tractor as well, I would control lift, angle, pitch and sideshift from the tractor cab. The newer 9030 Ford bi-direct tractors seem to have a lot of hydrlic capabilities, but don't realy know, " i don't have one yet" :-(

But the theory will work for your freind too. Why get an other grader when all the grader he needs he's got. HE can do the same thing. Cut the grader in half, and attach the front half to a frame to some how bolt or pin up to the front of his Ih tractor. double steering might be a little tough to figuer out, but if the tractor steering was roped in a straight position and steered the combo from the grader front by the tractors spool valve it would work. Your only backing up and driving foward in just about straight lines.

realy the only thing your freind might need is a pto pump, tank, hoses and valves to power all those hydrolics on the grader, if the tractor at best had for spools you might beable to runn the whole show from the tractor.

Am i making sense, I think it would be much easier to grade facing forward rather than trying to build a windrow while looking over your shoulder.

ask me if any thing seems confusing, hey the idea's great in theory!!!

Now that we are talking graders, does anybody own a Cat No. 7 Auto Patrol I can talk to. I would like to know how many are out there of this series. The serial No. on ours is 6D13.

I have a Russel Jr. road graderit is orange. A 40 or 50 hores tractor would pull it. Iwpoud not use one of those to blade the drive way they are worth too much to do that with them and since they were made of cast and cast gets briddle over tim it can tend to break when something hard his it.

I know of one sitting along the road side here in Missouri, I'm not aware of its availability, although everything can carry a price

I don't know who all makes them but I think this is what you desribed. They call them Fresno blades here.

In this part of country they used to pull them with mules and a man rode the blade but this new style is alot easier on the mules.

Look at this pic and use your imagination to build one for tons less money. You can build it to use with any size tractor with a hyd system

I just bought a 'homemade' blade/gang plow combo. It has an 8 foot snowplow blade that runs off of the tractor hydraulics. It swivels and tilts. In front of that, it has a two arm gang plow that is hydraulic also. It has an electrically operated hydraulic system. It is strickly three point hitch and extremely heavy. It will pull the front wheels of a MM G1000 off of the ground when going up an incline with the three point up. I'm going to have to fill the front tires up with liquid and make a weight box to hook on the front. The blade was built by a local welder who used to do welding in the construction of power plants. The welds are cleaner than just about any factory weld you will see on farm implements. Paid $2500 for it.
