Does anyone have any info on a 101 or 227 john deere corn corn picker. Any good web sites with info? Fond both in a neighbors barn. He said That I could have them for free. Which one is better? I have a 1941 A and a 1950 A. Which one should I take? Both look to be in great useable condition.

When I was a youngun we had a 41 B with a 101 picker. The reason we got rid of it is because when the corn got to be 80 to 100 Bu. per acre it wouldn't handle it. I was too young to remember how much work it was to mount on the B but do remember it was a semi-mounted one.

If you have good corn 175bu or better, that 227 will be a big load for the A These pickers are from the days of 100bu and less corn.
I know of a 227 on a 60 and it really had to work in low gear.
If you just want to have some fun get the 101

If you can, take both. The 2-row would be a better match for the 1950 A. However, it is a lot harder to take on and off the tractor than the 101.

I don't know much about them so I guess I want to go with the one that is easier to attach which you said is the 101. If you have any experience with one or have more info on the 101 that would be very helpful.

I have a JD 101 mounted on a 1948 A. It is easy to mount but won't handle any large yields. It will snap the ears but won't husk them. It plugs up too because the A has the faster first and no creeper gear. I now use a New Idea 319 gathering unit with a 12 row husking bed on a 720 JD. That handles any condition. I don't know much about the 227 except it'll take a day or more to mount. Hope this helps.

i have two 100 or 101 jd corn snappers that i'm rebuiding for my own use parts for these pickers are all obsolete except for a few bearings but luckly i konw a machine shop that can make anything i might need. I picker does a real good job of picking as long as you keep the snapping rollers close together it will pick even the smallest nubs in the field. I use a jd 1530 to pull my picker 45hp pto does a fine job.
