Go slow but you might need to increase the weight. I like to use 30 gallon drums filled with water. That way I can vary the weight easily.

George, that's a pretty small disc even for an 8N. I pull a 7 footer behind mine but I do lash on some railroad ties for added weight.....and I disc after plowing. I don't see how your disc will penetrate much unless it has lots of weight on it or unless the soil is real loose. Have fun with it!

Well, you are calling it a harrow, and you talk about actually getting into the dirt with it now, so I'll guess you are from Florida. 'Here' they are called disks, and the ground is froze as hard as it's been all winter..... ;)

Anyhow, is the ground worked up at all, if not what is there now, and how do you want to get to a lush hayfield from here? Do you want to soil test & fertilize, just fertilize, grass hay, alfalfa hay, mixed grass & legume hay - is it just for mowing, just for pasturing, or a combination? All kinda makes a difference. Got a seeder?

Like the other person said, slow down with the disk & be careful! :)

This web site has some real good beginner info on how to plant & harvest pastures & hay ground. As well as sheep & predator info.
