Hydraulic question

A friend and I were talking the other day and he brought up a good question. He has a John Deere which uses motor oil for hydraulics, and I have a Farmall that uses hytran hydraulic fluid. Will it damage either tractor (seals etc) If we pull the same implement? He is affraid that the oil left in the lines and cylinder will mix the oils together and damage the seals in his J.D. Anyone have any advice/answers? Thanks in advance.

I would go with TP's advice and each use a different cylinder. I wouldn't mix the fluid.

Well, I have always played it safe, and just bought "Red" tractors and have "Hy-Tran" filled cylinders to go with them ;-) I know a couple of guys over here in Nisbet have bought their own cylinders just to keep on their tractors for this problem. As I said, I only own one brand of tractor so I can't really help, but you may just buy a cylinder for your tractor and your Dad can have the other.

I grew up a little farther away from the river than you guys. Mind wasn't clouded up from all those mosquitoes :). Oh yeah and remember you started it!
