I think the two step to post process got me again, did a post earlier and it isn't here.I'd like some sincere feedback on the pitfalls of taking on too much haying in my situation. This will be my second season, using a 9N, 9' swather and engine driven baler that did pretty well last year after sitting idle for +/-8 years, and I'm picking up that Sitrex rake this weekend. I managed to decide to, organize, gather and get functioning the first three pieces, cut, bale and barn the 10 acres last year in less than 3 weeks. The total equiptment wish trailer rentals fuel and everything was less than $1500. I still need to do some work to the swather and tractor, the baler may a bit of fidling but is pretty much field ready. The rake I'm getting is almost new. I still need to build my trailer too. Now, I got word last night that I have full rights to 40 acres worth of hay, a stated average of 150 tons if I want it. Problem is it's 65 miles away. I only have storage lined up for about 50 tons, I would guess I can find more though. I'd think it best to advertise in that area for sale out of the field, maybe low enough cost so as to ensure mostly complete turnover. I'd also think to cut and bale in sections to compensate for erratic weather in June. I'm planning a 21' gooseneck for my trailer and may get pop's old F600 to help out. Wanting to get or build a bale thrower as manpower will definitely be short in the field, in the barn there's help. I'm actally worried most about the possible tying problems arising with the baler, can't be avoided if it happens though. What might you folks have to add that I may not be thinking of and/or can't know from lack of experience?
