Can anyone tell me how to plow? Other than just drop it in the ground! I will be plowing a food plot with a JD 4020 with a F145H 4 bottom plow. Thanks

Hey- you're welcome to visit again this spring- I have two little spots to do before spring planting- OR come to our threshing grounds plowing day- when all the old ones come out to play. Generally the third Sunday in April- depending on the weather- If it's earlier I can let you know, all depends when spring comes in Mn.

JMS,
Hey thanks.
The plowing day at the threshing grounds sounds like a lot of fun. Keep me posted and I'll come out.

Different ways to start plowing depends on the size of the field you are going to plow and also the terrain itself. You can start on one side or the other and roll dirt toward the outside, this will leave the dead furrow somewhere in the middle of the field. Or you could start in the middle and plow right next to your first furrow only in the opposite direction. If it's steep you may have to plow up and down the hillside for safety. If it's a big field you may have to plow it in sections using the above methods. This will save a lot of travel at the ends. dont try to get to close at the ends. Afterwards you can plow off the ends in the opposite direction of the other furrows. Good Luck

Find someone who knows how to plow, and WATCH him ( or Her) for about a week..!!! Have them strike a land for you, or have them show you how to get a good straight "Headland"... It takes a long time, in the field, with someone who is experienced, to know how to do all the things right.... Besides, you will need someone help you get the plow set up rite, to do a good job... Is the plow "Scoured"...or rusty..??? A rusty plow is going to be a pain in the Butt for you, and NEVER let it get rusty again...once you get it scoured up.....
