My son and I are thinking about buying a No.60 3 bottom this guy got from the family estate. He never used it. He says its missing the hydraulic cylinder and lines. The sales catalog pictures we seen show a different hydraulic set-up than this one has - are we missing parts? It has alot of blue and red paint on it yet and looks complete as far as we know, which ain't much. Would someone reading this post please go to implement photos and comment on our find. Also do you think its worth $200.00? Asking price. What size hydraulic cylinder do we need? My son wants to use it at local plow days we have in the area, hes got a Cat D2 he's going to pull it with. I'm sure we'll get help at the event with setting it up, but we want to make sure we got all the stuff we need. Pictures at implement photos under McCormick No.60. We have more pics, if you email us we can email you more info. Thanks, Mike & Ken

The standard stroke for a hydraulic cylinder on most farm implements is 8 inches. A plow takes very little power to lift, so a small plow could likely be lifted by a 2 inch diameter, but it's common to use a 3 inch. My six bottom plow is a semi-mount, and the rear end is lifted by a 3 1/2 by 8 cylinder. The standard was established so cylinders could be interchanged between machines, rather than buying one for each. Your cylinder isn't really missing- somebody else is just using it!

I used one of these beast about 14 years ago. I used a 4x8 cylinder on it. I cannot tell for sure if you are missing any pieces to the plow, but it looks like its pretty much there. I would ask someone in your local area or get a manual for it, as it will show the lift. You can also check your local international dealer to look at a parts book on one of these plows. It will show a nice exploded view. These were very common plows in their days, and parts should be available. The price is about average for one selling in my area at this time of year if the bottoms are still good. krum

Can't help you much with the hydraulics.
But I do read this board pretty regularly.
More than once I've seen people say that $100 per bottom isn't a bad price to pay for a decent plow.
I'll let you do the math...
