Dumb question about my disc harrow

Finally got all the parts together for my disc.
New bearings etc. It's a 4 gang 3 pt. unit for My Ford 2N.
There are 4 square shafts. Two have left handed threads and the other two right handed.
I forgot to pay attention when I took them apart.
Do the gangs with the left hand threads go on the Right side of the machine or the Left?
I know it won't make a heck of a lot of difference
but I may as well do it right.
Especially since this board is so handy and helpful.
Thanks,
Jerry Mpls MN

Ultradog,

I checked my disk lastnight and it had right handed threads on all 4 axles. If you tighten them good and use the lock clips on each axle it should not make any difference. We have had this disk since it was new in 1964 and it has never worked loose. It was the main disk from 64 to 74 and has been on garden duty since. Did your disk have the locking clips that bend down over one side of the nut to keep it from loosening?

Hi again-yup, I'm the guy with the grain drills--When you run across left and right hand threads- think about Dodge cars- left hand threads on the left side of the car hold the wheels on. ie-rotation. Been hoping to get in touch with you regarding plowing. May 3-4, Central Mn two-cylinder club has their spring meet north of Little Falls (12 miles no on 371). They might have plowing. Everyone: Call Joe Stavish, 320-632-8970 for info. Even if it's green- it's still turning dirt! Also, I think you still have my phone number- would like your email or snail mail to let you know about the Forest City Threshers Plowing Day- usually third sunday in mail- subject to change with weather or early spring.

It is not a matter of right and left. The front gangs have the nuts on the outside and the rear gangs have the nuts on the inside. They will be on opposing corners rather than on the same side. It has been a few years since I have had to change a disk, but I would think that the axles that tighten to the left would be on the front right and left rear. The axles that tighten to the right would be on the left front and right rear.

Tighten in same direction as rotation, i.e. right side clock-wise, left side ccw.

Hey Thurlow,

I had already started putting them on.
I figured it was a flip of the coin which way they went.
They're on and I did it right.

Thank You

You do want this right, or they will work loose. Glad you got lucky on it. It is more important than you realize.
