How do you Plow?

I have an old Moline plow and I am pulling it with a draw bar on the back of an Allis model B tractor. It has one plow share and I dont know how to use it properly. It has an angled wheel on one side with a height and a direction adjustment. It also has a vertical wheel with a height adjustment on the other side. It has a solid wheel behind the plow share. When I plow, the furrow slice does not fall into the previous furrow. It falls on the unplowed ground between the furrows, as if the furrows are too far apart. This makes ground that is very uneven. I have a furrow, a hill, a furrow, a hill, etc. What am I doing wrong? I am a retired engineer learning to farm. Help!

I hope he got it by now, as that thread is gone now.

Basically you need to move the plow over towards the furrow so things line up. A combination of adjusting your tractor rear tire in (front also if it's wide front) and moving the hitch of your tractor & moving the ajustable hitch on your plow should get it to trail so the plow wheel is in the furrow when the tractor wheel is in the furrow, lined up just right.

Which one to adjust how much could fill a book, depending on your equipment & conditions. :) But get that tractor wheel in, & get the plow moved over so the wheels on the right side line up. Then drive in the furrow with that wheel.

A pull-type plow needs to be lined up behind the tractor according to the line of draft. LOD is not the centerline of the plow, it is 1/4 bottom width to the right of centerline. That should line up with the centerline of the tractor, and the right wheel of the plow should be in the furrow, as well as the right rear tractor wheel.

Thanks guys, moving the plow connection over on my draw bar did the trick. I got the LOD lined up like you said, and the furrows are now the proper distance apart. Again, thanks.
