I AM LOOKING AT PURCHASING A BEARCAT 73454 PTO CHIPPER IN A FEW DAYS. I HAVE A DEMO COMING. DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BRAND? IT WILL ACCEPT STICKS UP TO 4" IN DIAMATER, IT HAS A SELF FEED, IT WEIGHTS 600 POUNDS, AND IT HAS A ROTATING DISCHARGE TUBE 7' IN THE AIR. I AM ONLY PLANNING ON USING THIS AT THE FARM TO CLEAN UP. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT. PHILIP

I have a Bearcat PTO chipper. It works very well on my Massey TO35. The chipper will pull limbs in by itself, in fact, it's hard to pull one back, so if a long 4" limb is put in, it will stall the tractor. "Read, understand, and follow" the instruction/safety manual!!!!! The best piece of equipment I bought was a combination hard hat/face guard/ear muffs typically used for chain saws. This really helps save you from being slapped by a piece of limb as it gets pulled in. I put a piece of inner tube over the end of the discharge tube, this lets the chips drop on to a trailer, instead of being blown 20 feet away.

I have a model 73454, 4" chipper. Another trick I learned is to shift the chipper to one side while lowering the lift arms. This puts the PTO shaft in a straight line. Should make the universal joints last longer.

JOHN, ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THIS CHIPPER? DO YOU LIKE THE SELF FEED? DOES IT TAKE BRANCHES WELL WITH LIMBS STICKING OFF. NOW THAT YOU OWN THIS, WOULD YOU BUT ANOTHER BRAND, OR NOT ONE AT ALL? ANY INPUT WOULD REALLY HELP. THANKS. PHILIP

I am very satisfied with the chipper. I use it about 4 times a year for about 2-3 hours each.
It will turn a mountain of brush into a mole hill of chips in a short time. I sharpen the blades and grease the bearings after every use. You can tell when the blades need a touch up, the last foot of so of a log will bounce against the blades and not be pulled in as quickly as with sharp blades.
It isn't a hydraulic self feed, but it will pull in the limbs by itself. If the limbs have a lot of side branches, you may want to trim some of them off so they won't get wedged in the opening. The opening for the limbs is actually about 5" square, so some side branches will go through. Don't know about buying another brand, as this should last me for a long time. I looked at Woods brand at a dealer and some others on the internet, but decided to buy from a dealer close by. Hope this helps.

I have a 73454 chipper that I would like to sell. I found 1 place that sells it for $3099.99. I would sell mine for $2500.00. I don't use it. It came with my tractor.

I bought mine used for $1800. It looks and works like brand new. It is a perfect match for my Kubota 21HP tractor.

I have been studying up on chippers and demo'd a Bearcat73454. It looks like the way to go if you have a compact tractor with relatively low PTO power. Best for the money that I can find. Turns trees with limbs on it into dust/chips. Seems to pull trees in well. I would love to find a used one for 1800. to 2000. Anyone out there like Pete wanting to sell theirs?.

Not only will your U-joints last longer, even 10 degrees off center will rob HP, and make your engine work harder, and use more fuel! Robert
