Can someone please tell me the correct way to measure a disc? I have been told by one dealer that you measure the front gangs and another dealer says to measure the rear gangs.I have a JD 3020 deisel and would like to get the largest disc that it would pull.
Thanks,

It really doesn't matter whether you measure the front or rear gangs- there isn't that much difference. It's the number and style of disc blades that create the load. A 3020 will not do a decent job with a JD 210 disc with cone blades, although normal concave blades pull easier. For a 14 foot 210, you need a 4020 (94-100 hp) on clay soil. A 3020 should handle a 10-12 foot concave blade disc in 4th gear while it pulls a 210 in 3rd, and it better not be too wet!

I just bought a 10 foot JD wheel disc that does an excellent job from a guy that was pulling it with a 3020. It will cut plowed ground 5-6 inches deep if you want it to with no weight added. My info says you have 71 HP PTO and 68 at the draw bar. I pull the disk with a MF 255 with 54 HP fine.

I would think 10-12 foot.

Rear ganges, angled in work position, blade at gange bolt, both J.D. & IHC manuals
