I just purchased a 2 btm case plow,it was on a vac,I want to use it in our large garden pulling it with my vac-14.I never pulled a plow before. This one has two large springs on top and I was told these will lift the plow in the event that it contacts an imovable object. My question : is plowing pretty clear cut? do you just lower the plow and go? are there any critcal settings that must be made prior to plowing? any help would be appreciated.Perhaps someone could recommend a book. Thanks

I think the archives here have 2 good threads on this, it comes up every spring. :)

You need the wheels on the tractor to line up with the furrow; you need the drawbar & plow heights to be about right; you need to adjust the depth you want the plow to go; you need to level the plow front to back & right to left; and the very first round you need to set the right-side plow depth much deeper than all the rest of the rounds.

Sounds worse that it is. If the plow was used with a tractor similar to yours, all you need to worry about is getting the tractor wheel on the right side to line up with the furrows, by either moving the plow hitch, tractor hitch, and/or tractor wheel; and cussing about how miserable it plows that first round when the molboards are rusty & the plow angles are all wrong for that first deep pass....
