Corn Planter Problem

Last summer I bought a International model 241 2 row pull type planter and today I got to use it for the first time. This planter model uses runners not discs to open up the seed furrows. I wanted to put in about 8 rows of corn, but the right runner kept plugging up with soil and that keeps the seeds from comming out. The left runner did not plug up at all. Both runners look like they are in the same condition and I had the planter adjusted level (right to left).
Any ideas what I should adjust or fix?? The soil was a little wet, but didn't seem too wet and besides the left runner didn't plug up.

Just a thought - some of those old planters if they rolled backwards for any reason would also plug the seed tubes with dirt - learned that the hard way.

Sounds like it is set with the heel too far down. most of them have an adjustment that you can set the heel or the toe up or down on them. see if you can do that, if you can, set the toe down some or the heel up some. this should help stop the clogging.

Dane: I'll have to look into that. I'm not exactly sure how to adjustment for that, but the planter's clevis that attaches to the tractor drawbar does have a number of vertical holes. They would allow you to "level" the the planter and now that you explained the toe/heel priniciple, I think the holes would be the spot to make the adjustment. Thanks...You probably just saved me a lot of time and pain.

plus watch for all the things the other guys said. once i drop my planter into the ground ,i try to keep moving forward. however if it drops too hard and fast it will plug.when ever i get off to check seeding depth and placement ,i try to make sure i am either headed down hill or do not allow it to roll backwards. and before i get back on i check to make sure they are not plugged.
