I have spotted a finishing mower that the owner is willing to sell, but I don't know what brand it is yet, or if it is a good model to get. It sort of looks like the one in the picture. It is mainly yellow with some white, and I think it's 5', but it could be 6. The main feature is that the pto shaft drives a large vertical pulley, which drives the blades via a long belt. I think it has two rear wheels and the front height is up to you to control.
Any input on what brand it is (I'm in eastern Canada.) Should I pursue it? It seems to be in decent shape, although it has been sitting outside.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, it sounds like a Woods, they were cream / yellow. I have a RM-59, looks a lot like the one in the pic. If so, they're mighty good mowers. If it was cared for (and about all you have to do is grease the spindles and sharpen the blades), then go for it. These things were built like tanks. If the belt needs replacing, it could be pricey, but they do last a long time. Use a limiting chain to control the front height, the casters take care of the rear. A word of caution: when spinning, they can push your tractor forward, even after you step on the clutch. You might want to look into an ORC (over-running clutch). Good luck!

It does look like a Woods, but it's too old to be a rear discharge. i don't know if any other mfg. other than Woods used the big pulley to drive the blades or not?? I all so don't think Woods made a rear discharge that was driven with the big pulley. Hope this helps, Robert
