Hi Guys, I am looking for a good source for hydraulic cylinders. I need to replace the cylinders on my front end loader - I have no idea what brand it is - actually looks like it is home made. Can anyone recommend a supplier?
Thanks!
Steve

Check on Agri-Supply's website. You can download the catalog. You need to look at page 34 so you only need to download those pages. Have about anything you could want for a reasonable price. I have used these cylinders for everything I have needed a cylinder for and they have worked and held up fine.

Steve: I ordered a catalog from "Surplus Center"
which has all kind of hydraulic,& air cylinders,
plus a multitude of other things for hydraulic fixings. I don't know if they have a web site, but the phone # is 800-488-3407. You can call and request a catalog.

Thanks BLM!
I've got a catalog on the way.
By the way, they said they would have a web site up by the end of this year.

I saw that Northern Tool has a wide variety. Be careful though. If you aren't careful to get the exact same size and throw, you may not get the same range of movement out of your loader, or worse, bend it.

Consider rebuilding the ones you have.

Thanks for the info GSS.
I would like to rebuild my cylinders but the problem is I have no idea who made them. The gland nuts (at least that is what I call them -the nut on the end that is tightend to seal the packing) are a mess. Someone has tried to tighten them with a hammer instead of a span wrench and there isn't much left of them. The pistons (not sure if I have the correct terminology here) are badly scored.
I used to rebuild cylinders for forklifts years ago so I have some knowledge but since I don't know what brand cylinders these are I expect it will be a nightmare trying to find the parts.
Any thoughts?

I was in a similar situation with my IH 656 loader. It looks homemade too, but a reputable hydraulic shop said he could match up practically anything. I took one complete unit up and he gave me the appropriate sized o-rings, etc. Luckily the inside of the cylinder wasn't scored, but he did suggest getting the rods rechromed, which I had him do.

If the threads are ok, and you can get the mangled nuts off, you should be able to replace them. Are the threaded studs attached to the cylinder "lid" or the cylinder itself?

Also, if you have to get the cylinder "un-scored" in addition to the seals, o-rings, etc, you may be better off finding replacements for the entire unit. The cost of a new one might make more sense. If so, take the old one to a local hydraulic shop so they can compare your originals to off the shelf new ones. If they are weird and don't match, then the price may go higher to have custom replacements made...

I hope my rambling was helpful.
