I have some planted pines that are struggline hard against the native fauna (dog fennel, broomsedge grass, etc.).

Since I don't own a sprayer and don't want to keep borrowing my neighbor's I was looking at some alternatives. I was thinking of buyiny one of those rear deck mounted ATV 25 gal. 12v diaphram pump rigs from Ag-Supply or TSC then outfit it with some 10' booms and sprayer nozzles.

Anyone have any experience with these sprayers and the usefullness. Don't want to throw my $$ but thought this would at least provide me with an inexpensive, very mobile spayer of my own. Comments?

Thanks all for the info. so far. I only need this sprayer just for spot spraying some areas, no more than 1 acre at a time max. That trailer rig sounds interesting as does the pre-made booms. I will let ya know what I end up with.

For larger acreage (i.e. U-Pick) I have my access to my neighbor's rig. Says I can use "anytime". I am just not fond of using other folk's stuff to frequently. If I was farming full time I would just break down and get a large acreage rig. Who knows, one day I may own his sprayer rig but for now I use it late spring only and always return it promptly and clean!!

Well be a good neighbor and let him borrow yours because once he sees how easy it is to sit in the seat of a lawn mower and spray the fence row he will want to use it. LOL

Get it. For what you have described it is wonderful. Spot Spraying and clean up. they work wonderful.

I got one but can you believe it I got it from Northen before Agri started to carry them. The 25 is better than the 14 because it has the better pump. I have a boom kit for it and unless I am crazy (don't answer that) Agri sells a premade boom kit for that sprayer that bolts to the frame and is quite nice. I use mine behind a lawn mower, four wheeler, JD Gator and the tractor. It works great on a four wheeler or gator to spray wetter areas (ie Buried Tractor Prevention) or we have used it on fields of alfalfa to spot spray grass early when the fields are too wet to even think about spraying with the tractor and John Blue. The wand is an excellent way to go through the woods spraying wisteria vines, spraying briars in the pastures or spraying along fences to keep the weeds off them. I got mine 10 years ago and love it. It does not replace a fullsized rig for doing large acreage but it does compliment one. One alternative you might consider is the trailer one with booms for $269 that you can add the wand to for $30. That could be pulled anywhere by anything as long as you bolted a battery to it.

I strongly recommend owning one for use around the farm but if you are looking for an acreage sprayer you might be disappointed, not in the performance but in the time it will take to cover. Even 25 gals won't do well covering more than 2 acres. If you want to spray a couple of acres here and there it should work fine plus the added capabilities with the wand.

Do you think hooking one of these 12V sprayers up to a 6V system would cook the sprayer motor?

Yep without a doubt. Be trying to pull current enough to get the wattage needed and burn the pump up. It is real simple to just sit a battery near one and connect to that.

I have one that I got from Agri-Supply.I mounted it behind a small tractor and made a 6'boom with five nozzles for it.I use it on deer food plots. It has about 50 psi and works real good for small 1 to 2 acre plots.I also use the hand wand to spray around fish ponds.
