Still on fence about hay or winter pasture. However looking at drip irrigation for small (3 - 5 acre) plot of hay or winter pasture. Here are my thoughts, please tell me what you think. I have bore (oops, I mean a well) up hill about 300 hundred yards from a dam (oops, I mean stock tank). The well is rated at 300gal/hr. The stock tank is bout a 1/4 acre surface area. I'm considering putting a solar pump on the well (rated at around 150gal/hr) and pumping into the stock tank continously (that is depending upon sun availability). Then pumping out of the stock tank with fire fighter pump (gas-engine pump) into some sort of drip irrigation scheme. OR How about directly into the drip irrigation system from the well pump via gravity feed??? Does this sound feasible? How much should I water per acre and how often. Anybody out there doing anything like this? Any web site that would be a primer for drip irrigation? OBTW I'm a transplanted Texan in Australia, that's the mix-up on the bore/well and dam/stock tank. I have dealt with county agents while living in Texas. They would be happy to come out to your farm and discuss whatever. No such animal here. This forum is my 'county agent' and a very helpful one at that. Thanks for your input!! Ted twebb@gil.com.au
