How do you stop hay from wrapping around the bar of a Hesston haybine? this is the bar that pushes the hay into the rollers? hay wraps around the right side around the bar and slows down the rake that pushes it into the unit. Even going slow doesn't help, any ideas? or was I cutting it too moist?

Thanks, the hay is very tall and it was wet but I was cutting at 3 in the afternoon, it is a older Hesston PT-10, I replaced the teeth on it, but dont have a manual yet, it cuts the grass perfect but doesn't push it through the rollers and got wrapped up around the right side of the haybine, took 2 hours to clean it out!

I'm not sure if I understand the problem clearly, but it sounds like the teeth on the reel are feeding the hay into the rollers too late causing hay to wrap around the push bar. there should be an adjustment on the reel to change the teeth angle usually the big ring at the end of the reel

I did notice that on the reel there are plastic 10 inch pieces that make the teeth rotate, one of them was broken, wheter it broke when it clogged or was broke previously I dont know, could this cause it to clog, and where can I find one? looks like I can make it if I could find a block of plastic, it is a older Hesston PT-10 when I cut the previous field last week it ran great, this field is indeed thicker though and much more clover.

Joe

Like the others have stated, the hay might be to wet. Other thing might be the hay is too tall. With the wet spring here in MO, I have to set my haybine high and make two passes. My bother has use a bush hog to knock it down, the followed up with his haybine the next day. Good luck, Be save.

Hi Joe,
What model do you have? do you have manual. There are several adjustments that can be made to the reel. although i have never had grass collect on the reel. it will start to collect on the right side of the haybine chamber when the hay is too moist. (usually i notice this problem within 45 minutes of the sun sitting) or in the morning before the dew has been burned off (usually around 10:00 in our area. make sure the guards and knife sections are in good shape at the extream left and right of the haybine.

the hay is too wet. since i have lived in southwest nebraska have leared that dry hay cuts better. can cut all day without plugging. something i never could do in western penn.
