I just got a 501 sickle bar mower, I know almost nothing about it. I did get a copy of the parts manual. I do not have owners/operators manual. Are the manuals available or is anyone willing to run some copies of theirs? What does this mower weigh? It seemed awful heavy manhandling it onto my trailer. What kind of wood was used for the pitman arm? Mine has been modified with a steel bar and rod.

Call the New Holland publications department at 800-635-4913. I've ordered several manuals for my older Ford and Dearborn stuff from them...they're fast and relatively cheap. I think my sicklebar manual was about $6.

August 2005, I just called the phone number listed in the preceeding post (800-635-4913) and it is still good. The operator's manual for the 501 sickle bar mower is 9.48 and FEDEX shipping is 7.00

I've used a 501 for years. Its a good mower. It's sort of a bear to hook up to the tractor, it still take me 45 minutes or so. About the same to take it off. Ford will have a pitman stick for it. You can also buy universals from many tractor places. I just bought one in an emergency for 7.45. I usually make my own out of oak.
