I saw one in an ad today for $275.00 The ad claims that it works. Should I buy and is there anything specific I need to watch for?
Thanks,

Jeff

My neighbor still runs one, it's one of the first few dozen made in 1964. I'm pretty sure the 460 was the first full production model. It's been through a lot of hay. He has spent a ton of money replacing various parts over the last 10 years. He is just about close to having replaced every part. There's been a lot of down time I useually always help with the repairs. New Holland still carries almost all parts for it. A bearing went out last week. Should last a long time now especially since he cut his hay back to 20 acres. Price on that one sounds really good.

At that price, if he's telling the truth about it working, I don't see how you can go wrong. I have one I've been using to cut 2000 bales a year since 1983, with little in repairs. I don't know why it keeps going, but it does. I can't think of anything in particular to look for, just make him show you HOW everything works. Email me if you have any specific questions.
