how tough is it to install new seals on the tine shaft?

I have the JD 660 tiller and if it is as close to the HR6 as I think then the biggest problem is the chain cover. there has to be 25 bolts on that thing. The rest was very easy to get to once the cover was off.

Not all that bad. I did it on mine a few years back. It's fairly apparent how to do it. I had trashed the chain drive on mine (got careless about keeping the slip clutch adjusted properly in stony ground) and wound up disassembling mine to the point that both end-plates were off and the tine shaft completely removed. I suspect you could probably replace the seals without going quite that far, however.
