How can I keep the crows from pulling up my corn? I've had a terrible time with them pulling out the young plants as soon as they germinate, and then eating the kernel. While I haven't tried a scarecrow, mylar balloons and they like have not proved successful. I have been told that there used to be a product on the market that you could soak the seed in to make it unpalatable, but have been unable to locate it or otherwise find out much about it. Thanks.

Here in NC we use a powder called kernal guard.I mix one pack(about 2oz) into one bushel of seed corn.If you can't find it in your area you can use counter or loraspan. You might be able to get a farmer to give you some.It would'nt take much to treat a bushel bag of corn.

If your corn patch isn't too large, run string between 1-2 foot long stakes several feet apart so the string is criss crossed across the patch. It looks kind of strange for a while, but leave it in place until the corn gets too big for the crows to pull up. I guarantee it will work. I've resorted to this method many times over the years of gardening, and it always works. The crows think the string is a net and will not go under it.

strings will work.... . i use string to make straight rows . one year i just left the strings there for no reason and never lost any corn to crows . ever since i leave the strings there until the corn is too big for the crows and don't loose any

Used to be a product on the market called 'Crow Chex (Checks)'; don't know if it's still available. When I was a kid, my granddad would always soak the seed in turpentine before planting to keep blackbirds and crows from pulling it up.

Break out the 22 Mag. kill a few crows, and then hang them up.

I know this is going to sound bad but we had to eat. When the crows would start to pull the corn in our garden when I was growing up we would shoot a couple or three crows and hang them up on stakes in the garden until the corn got past the point they would mess with it. Seemed to work VERY well.
