What should I look for in buying a box blade? I have some wash out places to fill in, and smooth out around field and pasture. thanks in advanced, Eddie

I have a 6 foot ARPS and it takes a beating and still comes back for more. bought it used for $300.

I believe stronger is better. Look for one made of thick material. I can't quote specifics. If you're looking at used ones, look for bent parts. If they were able to bend something on the box blade, it's not made strong enough!

I bought a used 7' LandPride for $400....about the same price as a new cheapie. I haven't been disappointed. List price new is over $800 for this model and about the only difference I can see is the paint job.

You might want to consider what you want in the way of width. I wanted at least a 6' blade to cover the width of my back tires. I lucked out when I drove 120 miles to look at a used 6' blade and found out it was really a 7 footer.

Also, I've seen some where the rippers (also called scarifiers....the big teeth thingies) could be adjusted with a lever instead of adjusting each one separately. That seems handy, but sometimes you only want 2 or 3 rippers digging in. Having them separate seems like it gives you more versatility.
