Just bought a 3 bottom plow and heard that there is a spray to put on the mold boards instead of greasing it everytime. Just wondering if anyone new if this is true and whats it called. Thanks

I think the product you are speaking of is called Plow Coat. It is a heavy oil. Of course good thick waist oil will do the same thing. The John Deere product is a fair protectant if the plow is used regularly but for long term over 1 year outside storage it will rust through. Slip plate is a paint and on our pushy loam soils paint on plow bottoms is disastrous. it takes many acres to scour a plow in our soil so any type of paint is a frustration. Yet in other areas I know they never even grease or oil their bottoms. Their sandy clay soils will clean the rust right off and go to work. Good Luck

John Deere sells a soft black paint specifically for this purpose. Spray it on and it protects the moldboard from rust and then it comes off just like grease when you go back to the field.

I have never tried using slipplate on moldboards I always figured a well polished bottom worked best.

I use a product called Slip-Plate. Last i got was from TSC last year. I get it in a quart, but I think they sell it in a spray. Might also try Grainger
