I've got an old four gang, wheel disc that nobody can identify. It's painted Ford blue but no I.D. plate or stamped numbers. (Parts have been very difficult to find). It has a bent axle on the right rear gang (about 45 degrees). The axle (round) is bent at a taper where the outside bearing is located. Anybody had any luck straightening axles or should I get one machined?

Put it on the anvil and beat with sledge. Worked fine for me on an old IH disc with a sharp bend in a gang axle.

My experience has been they bust. I bent some plow beams while back. Took them to a truck stop with heavy duty press. They straightened them out by applying pressure right at the high point.

I am sure they are somewhat weakened but how often will I bend them? Not often as my knees took nearly a week to heal!!

If you were lucky enough to bend it instead of breaking it, just take it to a shop and have it straightened- might even do it cold. Otherwise, anyone with a torch can heat it and bend it straight. Usually they break.

I believe most any welder could straighten it if he heated it up first with a torch. It doesn't have to be perfectly straight because they turn so slowly.
I would try that before buying new.
For other parts as Paul says try shoupparts.com
or try agri-supply.com. Agri-supply will send you a free catalogue or you can download it in .pdf format if you have adobe acrobat reader software installed on your computer. Adobe is free and there is a link to get it agri-supply.
The link to the pages for disc parts is below.

Wow. They normally are hardened, so rarely bend - they break. I think it will get so weak by the time you straighten it.....

Have you checked Shoup, they handle all kinds of disk parts, plus custom make disk shafts. A round one shouldn't be too bad $$$.

I saw a used Burch? sp? disk at a local dealer. Looked like original blue paint. Thought it was Ford at first. LOL.
