I have a 1965 Ford 3000, I have noticed when I am operating my tractor with bushhog attached, if I depress clutch and brake to stop tractor's forward movement bushhog blades stop also. Is there a brake which controls the PTO on this tractor? I can depress clutch 1/2 down and shift gears when bushhog is turning. All information appreciated. Charles

I agree that it sounds like you have a two stage clutch. With that push half way down to stop forward movement of the tractor, but keep the PTO running. If you press all the way down it will stop both forward movement and PTO. I owned a Ford 2000 and 3000 with this type clutch and both were very serviceable. Used the 3000 for 25 years before trading it off.

It sounds like you have a 2 stage clutch in the Ford. Half way depressed allows the pto to continue to work, but when you fully depress the clutch to stop, it also disconnects the pto. I can't remember but I think it was called a semi-live pto with that setup, and was common on fords and Massey Feguson tractors.

I have a MF 165 with the "two-stage" clutch. They called it "live" PTO to distinguish it from most tractors of the time which had fully independent PTO. It is somewhat deceptive, its really not as good as the independent PTO. You have to get used to only pushing the clutch down part of the way. It wouldn't be so bad if you only had tractors with two stage clutches, but when you have other tractors with independent PTO, a person forgets to push the clutch down part of the way after running the other tractors for awhile.
