A fellow near me has a 1991 Howard HR20 5 ft. rotovator. It has the gearbox so you can change tine speed. It doesn't look to be worn out but is showing it's age - has been stored outside so paint is faded and rust has started. He is asking $2,500 - he says that is half of what a new one would cost. It seems like a bunch of money for something this old, but I know Howard is a good brand. What do you think would be a reasonable offer??? I sure hope someone can help me! THANKS

For a used rotovator you can be buying someone else"s problems. Before you pay that kind of money for it check out the teeth and see how worn they are and twist the pto drive back and forth to check for excessive ware. If you don"t see any oil puddles and the hardware checks out $2500 is reasonable

I just bought a rotovator somewhat like this one. $2500 seems on the high side but if it is in great shape it would not be unreasonable. Make sure tines are good as these are expensive to replace. There are probably 40 of them at $12-16 which adds up fast. Only other things are bearings and gearbox. Paint is a non issue. You can tell if it has been abused by how many dents from rocks and stuff.
